About StrayDots

StrayDots is a project name I conceived of a long time ago, while studying abroad in India. I had no concept of what I really wanted to do with the name but it intimated some notion that life, things, ideas could be abstracted and represented as series of dots. Over the years, my ideas ranged from building a social networking site for ex-pats living in remote places to an app that used Wiki-like mechanic for group writing projects. This year, 2026, almost entirely for my own convenience, I'm making a micro-journaling app.

Why Micro-Journaling?

I spend way too much time scrolling. Whether it's Reddit, YouTube or even work emails, I find myself scrolling through content that encourages me to mindlessly consume rather than create.

I also suck at actually journaling. Every few years, I would make a New Year's Resolution or some other impromptu and lofty goal to start journaling. I would polish off a brand new notebook, write a few pages, and then never touch it again. One of my great regrets in life is that I don't have a body of writing to look back on and reacquaint myself with my former self.

This app is an attempt to enable the journaling experience by optimizing for convenience and accessibility. Instead of reaching for another scrolling app, I tap on the StrayDots app and record whatever comes to mind, without caring who will read it or if it will be read at all. The app will suggest some basic prompts and tags to help me get started but otherwise, it will be up to me to decide what I want to say about my day.

Privacy

This app is entirely built for me but you are more than welcome to use it as well. Your entries are private and secure. Your thoughts belong to you. There is no share button (yet or ever) and you're not on a stage performing for the Internet. I don't plan on adding any features that would compromise your privacy.
